Pet Snails Names

Choosing a name for your pet snail
Choosing a name for your pet snail

So, you decided to have a snail pet, congratulation! You are now probably wondering whether or not to name it and which name to choose. There are many options to choose from but at the bottom line it should be a name you feel comfortable saying and calling. If the snail is a kid’s pet, help them say the name out loud a few times before deciding on the name.

It is important to note that there are a few rules, or better say guidelines, when naming a pet like a dog or a cat. When you name a dog for an example, you need to train it to listen and follow commands, so most trainers recommend short names with two or less syllables. However, it is very unlikely that you will be able to train your snail to follow your commands so you have more freedom in choosing a name.

Whatever it is have fun with it. We named our snail soap dispenser: Snaily.

Why should you name your snail?

If you are asking yourself whether or not to name your snail pet, the answer is very clear. If you had a pet dog or a cat, wouldn’t you name them? Naming your pet is useful in many ways:

  1. It increases the emotional connection between the pet and its care giver.
  2. It helps referring to the snail as a living creature

Therefore, naming your new and unique pet shouldn’t be different. It will help you build the bond between you two and make the conversation easier. Just think of saying “snail, come and eat” instead of calling by its actual name when you put its snail food out.

Do you need a boy or girl name for your snail?

An interesting fact about snails is that their anatomy has both the male parts and the female parts. Which mean that their reproduction process is unique and fascinating. It also means that you can choose whether to call your snail (or snails) by a boy name, a girl names or unisex names.

Which name to choose?

The short answer is: whatever make sense to you. Below you will see some ideas for names divided into different groups. Do you prefer a name from a Disney movie? Or maybe one of the Avengers? What about Beyonce?

In addition, the name you would want to choose would likely be related to the type of snail you have. A Giant African Land Snail would probably have a different name than a small garden snail.

The choice is entirely yours!
